A great visit to see old caves utilized as wine storage and barrel ageing. They also produce some amazing "monovarietal" wines that are hard to find in Rioja, as well as an incredible white wine.

One of the top producers of Getariako Txakolina, the Ameztoi winery owns 20 hectars of vines in the best location. The vineyard overlooks the town of San Sebastian and is highly influenced by the Atlantic Ocean.

A highly regarded cava producer, Bodegas Sumarroca specializes in Brut Nature wines and is owned by Mr. Sumarroca, one of Spain’s most important and awarded agriculturists. The quality of wine on the vineyard is amazing due to the fact the family cares so much about the quality of their grapes. The Brut Nature Gran Reserva is one we have on our own Barcelona menu, and happens to be one of the best cavas produced in Penedès.

One of our favorite wineries to visit in the stunning Ribeira Sacra region. Beautiful Mencia wines are produced here, like the Barrica that we pour by the glass, as well as some great whites and delicious "orujos" (Spanish grappa). They always arrange a fun boat ride on the river to see the vineyards, followed up with a wine tasting by the water.

One of my favorite Albarino producers, owned and operated by a brother and sister team. They don't speak much English, so be prepared to have a translator nearby, but they can set you up on a great boat ride into the Ocean to sample crazy fresh oysters with their wines.

One of the oldest wineries in Rioja, right next door to La Rioja Alta in Haro. This is an absolute must to visit, they produce some of the longest aged wines in all of Spain (even their whites and roses!) and haven't changed the decor or wiped the mold from the walls in over 100 years. Like stepping back in time. Appointments are required, but easy to get.

A favorite for us to visit! Try one of the only Pinot Noir produced in Spain (and it's really amazing) plus some of the coolest, small production Cavas. There is a great patio for dining in the vineyards, as well lovely guest rooms to stay the night. We are famous for lounging in the Egyptian cotton bathrobes while drinking the remaining cava after dinner!

This winery is located on the breathtaking countryside hills of Valencia where it is situated on a hilltop. Here at this winery, Pablo and his partner Javier use large urns known as amphoras (pictured below) to make their wine. This rare technique of wine making has no oak, allowing full characteristics of grapes to show.

Situated in the southeast of Mallorca, Anima Negra Winery has taken the idea of Quibia (conceptual world of Utopia where ideas go to live outside of ourselves) and created a place where the soul of Mallorca is what’s in the bottle. One of the many indigenous grape varietals on Mallorca is Callet, which happened to be our favorite drink of the day. The callet was light, aromatic, acidic and tough, showcasing the harsh vegetation that produced its juice.
